Despite the cheesy title, You Can Be a Stock Market Genius contains some great investing advice. As a successful fund manager, Greenblatt knows which methods work and which don't. Here he presents several investing strategies based on the idea of looking for special corporate actions like spinoffs, mergers, and restructurings. He explains how these actions can lead to situations where many investors are issued shares that they never wanted, which creates selling pressure and great buying opportunities. He sheds some light on the process of analyzing the company's SEC filings through actual case studies. In particular, he emphasizes the importance of the management's compensation plan and whether it is tied to the stock's value or not. Although it may require quite a bit of further reading to be able to do the in-depth analysis that Greenblatt does, this book will give the reader a better idea of where to start.
