This book complemented Adams' book well. Many of the concepts that I was confused about were explained with more sophistication, which actually made them easier to understand because there was no ambiguity. Although this book might be too dense for a first introduction to knot theory, it is a very well written book, and contains a wealth of information. The biggest flaw is that most theorems are given without proof, and in the event that a proof is given, it is just a sketch. The lack of proofs is partially a consequence of the technical nature of the subject, but it is nonetheless frustrating to the student who wants to understand.
