Operation 40

Frank Sturgis sworn testimony on page 111:

... the Revolutionary Council was going to be the governing body of a new government in Cuba.

Ibid. on page 113:

Howard Hunt as Eduardo, was a high ranking political officer with the Revolutionary Council.

Ibid. on page 113:

Operation Forty was a CIA top secret operation. They were to train, I believe, approximately 200 Cubans who were in the [American] Army. ... Their main job was intelligence. These men were going to be used to infiltrate Cuba and make contact with the underground.

Ibid. on page 114:

Sam Jennis [Jose Joachim Sajennes Pardomo] was the head of Operation Forty. The second chief of Operation Forty was Felipe Gutierrez. ... funding for Operation Forty was CIA. The training for Operation Forty was U.S. Army and CIA. Mr. Frank Bender, which is a code name for Mr. Drecher, is his real name, who was the top CIA official who was in charge of the CIA operation in South Florida for this mess.

Ibid. on page 9:

Sam Jennis was an employee, and had a fairly good position with the CIA.

Marita Lorenz in sworn testimony on page 27:

Mr. Triplett. Will you tell us briefly what Operation 40 was?

Mrs. Lorenz. A group of trained assassins.

Ibid. on page 42:

First of all, I was a member of Operation 40.

Ibid. on page 171:

Mr. Fithian. ... the CIA paid all the people who were in Operation 40.

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes.

Mr. Fithian. And this would include Oswald?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes.

Mr. Fithian. Sturgis?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes.

Mr. Fithian. Yourself?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes.

Ibid. on page 156:

Eduardo [E. Howard Hunt] paid Frank [Sturgis] and Frank divided and the rest went for supplies.

Ibid. on page 28:

Mr. Triplett. Who trained this group [Operation 40]?

Mrs. Lorenz. Frank Fiorini [Sturgis].

Manuel Ray in CIA interview:

He said "Operation Forty" was composed of followers of former president Fulgenicio BATISTA who were to follow behind the invading troops and "purge" the captured cities and towns. He said that the operation was planned by SANJENIS and GUTIERREZ, and that one of the members was CALVINOS (fnu), a "war criminal" who was [?] in the invasion.

Felipe De Diego via William Turner HSCA interview on page 5:

Operation 40 was the intelligence branch of the 2506 Brigade and brought along assassins since it was believed that some of the Cuban leaders would have to be eliminated permanently. Members of this group included COLONEL PIEDRA, who was also said to be in contact with CARLOS BRINGUIER, and JOAQUIN SANJENIS, who reputedly was with the CIA and is alleged by Frank Sturgis to be his (Sturgis') CIA contact officer. E. HOWARD HUNT is also supposed to have been in charge of this group.

Jose Alfredo Perez San Roman (Military Commander of Bay of Pigs Brigade 2506) in Rebuttal: The Truth About Giron on page 13:

Howard Hunt, a C.I.A. Officer in charge of the political action of the invasion plans...

Frank Sturgis - CIA

JRS (James R. Schlesinger) in CIA memorandum on page 3:

Shortly thereafter I discussed these matters with Bill Colby, who indicated that Sturgis has not been on the payroll for a number of years and that whatever the allegations about the Chilean Embassy, the agency has no connection at all.

Frank Sturgis sworn testimony on page 123:

I was associated with the CIA.

Ibid. on page 11:

Mr. Schwarzer: Were you ever paid for any services by the CIA?

Mr. Sturgis: Directly, no sir. In cash, yes.

Frank Sturgis in television interview with Geraldo Rivera at 22m35s:

Geraldo: So while you were a CIA agent, you were also a minister of gambling for Castro?

Sturgis: That's correct.

Paul Meskil reporting on interview with Frank Sturgis in the New York Daily News:

Sturgis was a hired operative of the Central Intelligence Agency for at least a decade.

Marita Lorenz in sworn testimony on page 19:

Mr. Triplett. Did you ever see any identification or anything to verify that [Frank] Sturgis was with the CIA?
...
Mrs. Lorenz. Yes, in Miami.

Ibid. on page 144:

Mr. Krieger. Who was [Frank] Fiorini [Sturgis]'s direct supervisor?

Mrs. Lorenz. Eduardo.

Ibid. on page 148:

Mr. Krieger. Was he, Eduardo, ever known by any other name?

Mrs. Lorenz. E. Howard Hunt.

Ibid. on page 152:

Mr. Krieger. To the best of your knowledge during the period 1959 to 1963 were either or both [Frank] Fiorini [Sturgis] and Eduardo [E. Howard Hunt] in the employee [sic] of the CIA?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes, company men.

Saint John Hunt (son of E. Howard Hunt) in radio interview at 1m38s:

My father testified before the various senate committees that he had never met Frank Sturgis until 1971 when he was introduced to Frank by Bernard Barker. But in the memos and in conversations I had with my father, he revealed to me that in fact he had known Frank for a long time, that they had worked together during the Bay of Pigs operation.

CIA statement (1975):

Neither Mr. Gonzales nor Mr. Frank Sturgis have ever been connected with the Central Intelligence Agency in any way.

JFK Hatred

Marita Lorenz in sworn testimony on page 156:

Mr. Krieger. Why did these people, the anti-Castro Cubans, etc., why did they hate the late President?

Mrs. Lorenz. Because of the Bay of Pigs, they didn't get the backup by air they were promised. Frank [Fiorini/Sturgis] sent a lot of the men he trained to their deaths and he had to face the Cubans. He himself stayed on this side, he did not go.

Mr. Krieger. You are talking now about the Bay of Pigs?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes. He directed the operation.

Ibid. on page 160:

I didn't speak up when they said, "I wish the S.O.B. were dead, he deserves to die because of the Bay of Pigs."

Ibid. on page 82:

Frank Fiorini [Sturgis] for one was very vehement [regarding killing Kennedy].

E. Howard Hunt Confession

Saint John Hunt (son of E. Howard Hunt) in radio interview at 4m28s:

By my father's own testimony to me, by his own admittance to me, he was a benchwarmer, those are his words, in what he called the big event, which was the running code name for the assassination to kill President Kennedy.

E. Howard Hunt (CIA agent) in taped recording in radio interview at 8m34s:

I was a benchwarmer on it.

Frank Sturgis Confession

Marita Lorenz in sworn testimony on page 164:

Mrs. Lorenz. Frank admitted it to me. Frank admitted it to me. He said: "What the hell. You think one bullet can do all that damage?"
...
Mrs. Lorenz. I was not sure until he actually admitted it to me. He told me in ambush style.

James Rothstein (NYPD detective) in radio interview part 4 at 3m05s:

And then while we were talking he freely admitted that he had been on the grassy knoll.

David Morales Confession

Alan Weberman and Michael Canfield in Coup d'Etat in America part 28 on page 57:

HSCA investigator Gaeton Fonzi traced Morales to Wilcox, Arizona shortly after MORALES' death, and talked to his lifelong friend Ruben Carbajal and a business associate of MORALES' named Bob Walton. Walton told Fonzi of an evening in the spring of 1973, after many drinks, when MORALES went into a tirade about Kennedy and particularly his failure to support the men of the Bay of Pigs. He claimed "Kennedy had been responsible for him having to watch all the men he recruited and trained get wiped out". MORALES finished this conversation by saying "Well, we took care of that son of a bitch, didn't we?" Carbajal, who had been present at the confession, corroborated it.

BBC article:

David Morales was Chief of Operations and once told friends: "I was in Dallas when we got the son of a bitch and I was in Los Angeles when we got the little bastard."

Dallas Trip

Marita Lorenz in sworn testimony on page 46:

Mr. Triplett. When was that trip [from Miami to Dallas]?

Mrs. Lorenz. About a week or so before November 22 [1963].

Mr. Triplett. Who else was involved in that trip?

Mrs. Lorenz. Jerry Patrick Hemming, Pedro Diaz Lanz, the Novos [brothers], Ozzie [Lee Harvey Oswald], Frank [Fiorini/Sturgis], myself, Orlando [Bosch].

Ibid. on page 52:

Mr. Triplett. Did it occur to you that Frank [Fiorini/Sturgis] was in charge?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes, he was in charge.

Ibid. on page 57:

Mr. Triplett. Are you certain in your mind that Jack Ruby came to the door?

Mrs. Lorenz. Yes.

Ibid. on page 78:

Mr Preyer. In your statement you say: "As I was leaving Eduardo [E. Howard Hunt] drove up..."

James Rothstein (NYPD detective) in radio interview part 4 at 0m37s:

We were able to verify that they in fact had had car problems and stopped there to get their car fixed before they went into Dallas.

E. Howard Hunt - Dallas

Los Angeles Times article:

The article, headlined "CIA to Nail Hunt in Kennedy Killing" and written by Victor Marchetti, also a former CIA agent, said a 1966 CIA memo indicated that Hunt was in Dallas the day Kennedy was shot. It said he was disguised as one of three "bums" who were arrested in Dallas the day Kennedy died.

E. Howard Hunt Alibi

Saint John Hunt (son of E. Howard Hunt) in Bond of Secrecy on page 40:

Why did he change his story so many times? If his children were his alibi, why wouldn't his defense team call us to testify for him? This could have put the whole matter to rest once and for all! Why? Because it was a lie; I was at our home that day, and I never saw my father.

Oswald Letter

Letter in HSCA report on page 357:

Nov. 8, 1963
Dear Mr. Hunt,
I would like information concerding my position.
I am asking only for information. I am suggesting that we discuss the matter fully before any steps are taken by me or anyone else.
Thank you,
Lee Harvey Oswald

Prof. Jerry Kroth in video at 38m03s:

The word of "concerding" in his writings proves that that letter was written by Oswald.

Ibid. at 16m09s:

That is a mistake a dyslexic makes.

Lee Harvey Oswald quoted in The Mind of Oswald on page 52:

I made that clear from my first letter, although nothing has been said, even vaguely, concerding this in my correspondence with the Embassy.

John Stockwell

Ex-CIA officer John Stockwell speech at 49m09s:

The CIA OP Mongoose JMWAVE group out of Florida that had been attacking Cuba...

Ibid. at 51m07s:

So what happened was a team of what they call CIA renegades because it wasn't the coat and tie people inside building like myself... who were of the establishment inside, it was the renegades down in Florida who were working this destablization activity against Cuba, working with Cuban exiles, overlapping greatly with the mafia which was involved in this flow of drugs from Cuba into the United States. These people plotted a military-style ambush in Dallas.
